If you’re a poet, we want to know it

UNISON is celebrating World Poetry Day on 21 March this year with an online event. And you can take part.

Jointly organised by the union’s organising unit and learning and organising services, submissions are sought from budding poets on a theme of Reflections of 2020.

The winning entry will earn a two-night break in the hotel at UNISON’s Croyde Bay Resort for up to four people, with breakfast included (donated by UNISON Croyde Bay; date restrictions and terms and conditions apply) and a £100 gift card as spending money (donated by UNISONProtect).

The winner will also be invited to take part in a round-table discussion led by assistant general secretary Roger McKenzie. Guests will include Jem Wall, the artistic director of Hydrocracker Theatre Company, which will be premiering a new work, Before the Flame Goes Out, featuring contributions from UNISON members.

The winning poet will have the choice of either reading their poem or having it read by Mr Wall as part of the event.

Further details of the event will be available on the organising unit’s Facebook page nearer the time.

The deadline for submissions is 15 March, so get your creative juices flowing – and when you’re happy with what you’ve written, please submit to s.organisingunit@unison.co.uk.

Thank you to UNISON Croyde Bay and UNISONProtect for their kind donations.
