UNISON North West has a busy day planned on Friday 29 November, as the region celebrates our teaching assistants.
In Lancashire, Alder Grange High School, Constable Lee St Paul’s Primary School and Crawshawbooth Primary School are all holding celebration events, and a press release was used as the basis for a report in the Lancashire Telegraph last week.
In Blackpool, Gordon Marsden MP is going to attend a local school.
UNISON will be attending a special assembly at Neston High School in Cheshire, while Mill View Primary School in Chester is also holding a celebratory assembly for all teaching assistants. Pupil views and opinions have been collated and each teaching assistant will receive a ‘thank you’ card and gift from the children.
Manchester and Merseyside are organising local radio interviews, and the chair of the national schools committee will be meeting with a local MP.
In Warrington, local MP Helen Jones will be joining in the celebrations by meeting with teaching assistants at Green Lane Special School, while the head teacher of a school in Oldham is holding a party for teaching assistants, and teachers and children have made cards.
Burgh By Sands school in Carlisle is celebrating by having a special assembly and showing the short video of teaching assistants at Pakeman Primary School available on the UNISON website. UNISON will call in for a photo opportunity and has invited the Labour Party Parliamentary candidate. The local press has also been invited to cover the story.
In Southport, the Meols Cop High School is closed, but has featured teaching assistants in the school newsletter, giving students tips on how to make the best of learning opportunities with TAs.
