Health pay matters
UNISON has joined together with other NHS unions in a bid to activate the 'reopener' clause in the NHS pay deal in the light of rising infaltion.
An individual postal ballot of 452,000 members working in the NHS saw 64.91% of of those taking part vote to accept the three-year offer worth 8.1% - and more to some members
"Hardworking staff across the NHS accepted a three-year pay deal six months ago believing government and economic predictions that inflation had peaked and would start to fall," said UNISON head of health as the unions presented new evidence to the NHS pay review body.
"This clearly hasn't happened. No one then could have predicted the world-wide credit crunch or that inflation would hit a 16-year high."
(18/12/08) The NHS Pay Review Body has decided not to ask the government to review the pay settlement for 2009/10. They will however undertake a review of all the available evidence in autumn 2009 to consider whether to seek a remit from the Secretary of State to review the pay settlement contained in the agreement for 2010/11.
(27/10/08) Staff side unions submitted their joint evidence to the NHS Pay Review Body on 27 October 2008.
UNISON has launched its "Re-Open Now" campaign to build support among NHS staff for re-opening the 2009/10 pay rates.
Interserve and UNISON reach agreement on the implementation of Agenda for Change from October 2006, for employees at UCLH.
UNISON’s Health Executive has given notice that it intends to return to the NHS Pay Review Body in the autumn with evidence to support a review of the pay rates agreed for 2009/2010. The soaring cost of fuel, energy and food has increased the cost of living so that inflation levels are much higher than predicted when the agreement was negotiated. For the full Executive decision.
(19/06/08) Changes in the pay and terms and conditions for health workers on Agenda for Change contracts
(18/06/08) Unions representing the majority of health workers have voted to accept the three-year deal. A circular will now be issued to employers implementing the 2.75% pay award for this year
