Youth and community workers
UNISON represents more than 15,000 members in youth and community work.
We know that youth and community services offer a vital way for young people to grow and tackle the challenges of approaching adulthood. They also form an essential part of local council's strategies for tackling poverty, inequality and the causes of crime.
We are outlining suggested options for the JNC pay claim for 2010, as proposed by UNISON's National Youth and Community Workers' Committee.
The Trade Union Side of the JNC has accepted the Employers' pay offer 2009.
Circular LG/9/2010 outlines the result of the consultation process and, attached to the circular, are the new salary figures.
Circular LG.68/2009 gives details of a final pay offer for youth and community workers employed on JNC conditions. It asks branches to consult youth and community members and respond to the Local Government Service Group by 5.00 pm on Monday 14 December 2009.
The new ISA Vetting and Barring Scheme launches on 12 October 2009 and will be fully operational from July 2010.
The Employers and the Trade Unions on the JNC have reached agreement on Time Off in Lieu (TOIL), Flexible Working and Compensation Arrangements for Youth and Community Workers.
Circular LG/47/2009 gives details of the 2009 pay claim submitted by the Staff Side at the JNC meeting held on 23 June 2009.

Circular LG/45.2009 encloses a response from the Communities and Local Government in respect of the TU Side's request for information on key worker status for youth workers.
Circular LG/30/2009 outlines suggested options for the JNC Pay Claim for 2009/10, as proposed by UNISON's National Youth and Community Committee.
In the branch consultation exercise, UNISON members voted overwhelmingly to accept the improved offer, which was reported to the JNC Staff Side.All constituent unions on the Staff Side have now voted to accept the improved offer and the employers have been notified accordingly.
Circular LG/17/2008 issued today advises branches of a new offer on youth and community workers' pay, made by the Employers to settle the 2008 JNC Pay Claim.
At the JNC meeting held on 11 March, the Employers refused to make any improvement on their original offer of 2.45% on JNC pay.
