Health Care

UNISON is the major union in the health service. Its health care service group represents more than 400,000 employees in the NHS and staff employed by private contractors, the voluntary sector and general practitioners.

(27/06/08) As part of UNISON’s ongoing 'Pay Not Poverty' campaign, we are conducting a survey to uncover the financial situation of health students, the levels of debt that they face, their personal care responsibilities and their hours of work and study.

UNISON has responded to a highly critical report from the Council for Healthcare Regulatory (CHRE) on the conduct of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) by calling for the report’s recommendations to be implemented in full and offering to work with the NMC to address the failings identified.

A guide on LINks has been prepared for UNISON by the Democratic Health Network. This briefing is designed to equip activists with the knowledge to ensure the new system functions effectively and that health and social care providers are properly held to account.

UNISON wants to find out about staff working in primary care. We have launched an online survey and would like as many people as possible to respond. Please take part in the survey and you can also enter our prize draw for the chance to win a Roberts DAB digital radio.

The attached report seeks to outline the information available on attrition rates for bursary and seconded students on nursing and midwifery courses.

Ballot sees 83% Yes vote for new unsocial hours payments

The attached spring newsletter includes articles on UNISON's survey of healthcare students, discussions on changes to the bursary system, the student nurse national seminar and respondining to major consultations covering pre and post registration nursing education.
