Branch development

We all want UNISON to grow in size and influence, to have effective trained representatives, to encourage and keep members involved, and to represent and negotiate for members effectively on the issues that affect them.

To do this successfully, branches need a development plan, covering all these activities and listing the improvements the branch seeks to make.

These activities can be complex and require planning and organising, and the plan can become an essential tool in this process.

The branch development plan is a key tool in delivering the organising agenda at branch level.

The Code of Branch Good Practice says: “To be effective, UNISON branches need to regularly review their organisation and activity, and develop plans to strengthen these.”

To help branches achieve this, the union has prepared a Branch development and organising toolkit.
